With nearly 150 m² of equipped laboratory space at SIP Basel Area Main Campus HQ, the Shared Lab in Basel is designed to help biotech and pharma startups and small teams conduct research without having to establish and equip a private laboratory of their own.
Within The Shared Lab, you can rent your own dedicated bench and benefit from 24/7 access to shared lab facilities, including scientific equipment, BSL-2 cell culture facilities, cold storage and supporting infrastructure.
With a fixed monthly fee and flexible rental terms, getting set up is simple and you don’t need to commit to more than you need. As your requirements evolve, Main Campus also offers a range of private laboratory options.

Shared lab space does not mean sharing everything.
Each resident company has its own dedicated bench and allocated storage, including refrigerator and freezer capacity, -80°C freezer space and storage for consumables and equipment.
In the cell culture area, dedicated biosafety cabinets and incubator capacity are provided wherever availability allows. Scientific instruments and supporting infrastructure are shared, giving residents access to a broad range of equipment without having to purchase and maintain it themselves.

Opening in the ALL building at Main Campus, our pre-equipped private labs will give growing companies greater autonomy while reducing the upfront investment typically required to move into a private laboratory.
Yes. Multiple scientists can share one Shared Lab bench. A bench can be allocated to one person or shared between two team members on a 50/50 basis. When sharing, the scientists rotate their use of the bench so there is no overlapping access.
Yes. Many companies use the shared lab as their first laboratory before transitioning into private laboratories as they secure funding and expand.
The monthly fee includes laboratory infrastructure, equipment access, maintenance, utilities, cleaning, facility services, community support and shared office amenities, giving you predictable operating costs.
Access to the Shared Lab is restricted to authorized personnel, and resident companies work from designated company-specific areas. Shared Lab residents are also required to follow the applicable confidentiality framework, including a nondisclosure agreement.
The shared ab supports a range of early-stage life sciences research and development activities. Its equipment and infrastructure are particularly suited to work in cell and gene therapies, immunotherapies and oncology, protein engineering and therapeutics, precision medicine and diagnostics, biomarker discovery, synthetic biology and biomanufacturing.
With BSL-1 laboratory space, BSL-2 cell culture facilities and shared molecular biology, analytical and chemistry equipment, the Shared Lab can support teams from discovery and proof-of-concept work through early preclinical research and development.
