The Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area keeps growing. The newest addition to its roster of buildings, HORTUS, has just opened on the Main Campus in Basel/Allschwil—and it’s already fully leased.
Developed by Senn Resources AG, HORTUS stands out as Switzerland’s most sustainable office building, designed for circularity and energy‑positive operation.
But the real value lies in what it makes possible: more space for innovation and collaboration.
While all long‑term leases are taken, a few fully equipped coworking desks and private offices are still open on the first floor. It’s the only way to join this vibrant community and work at the heart of one of Switzerland’s leading innovation hubs.

We’ll be part of the exciting development of the Main Campus. From now on, we’ll be even closer to where things are happening. As a fully employee-owned company, we feel this is exactly the right place for us, a building and campus that not only fosters innovation but also puts people and their well-being at the center. That’s exactly how we work and live.”
Peleven CEO Jan Lauffer is among the first tenants and excited about the move:
“HORTUS isn’t just a beautiful space to work,” says Lauren Dickel, Operations and Community Manager dedicated to HORTUS from Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area. “It’s designed to help people focus, connect and spark new ideas.”
The coworking space blends quiet corners for deep work with shared areas that invite exchange and collaboration. Whether you’re a founder, freelancer or part of a growing team, HORTUS offers the right mix of privacy and community.
As part of Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area, members automatically join a vibrant international network focused on life sciences and digital technologies. Regular networking events, learning formats and community meetups make it easy to connect, collaborate and grow.
“Our members have access to flexible desks, fully equipped meeting rooms and shared spaces like lounges, kitchens and calm zones for reflection,” Lauren adds.
What stands out most for Lauren? “The atmosphere. It’s open, calm and inspiring. You can focus when you need to but you’re never far from fresh perspectives and new connections. It doesn’t feel like a typical office. It feels like a place where ideas naturally come to life.”
“It’s a modern, sustainable building that brings together startups, established companies and innovation teams under one roof.”

The Main Campus is designed to support the life sciences community, from startups to established players, with the infrastructure, connections and services they need to grow. By the end of 2024, the campus hosted:
– 49 resident companies
– 12 research groups
– More than 1,100 people working on site
That number is expected to grow. By 2029, the Main Campus will be home to five buildings, offering a total of 115,000 m² of usable floor space. The site already includes laboratories, office space, coworking, event and training rooms plus restaurants, a fitness center, an international school and a convention center.
“I believe one of the really important aspects is that the developers of the area really care about people’s well-being. They really make a big effort in that respect, from the design. It’s a great design that makes people motivated to come to work here. I still believe not working too much from home is good and I think a lot of the challenges in the world need transdisciplinary approaches. So, bringing people together and innovation is essential. And you do that by caring about people and providing the right space.”
